Local art from West Seattle
West Seattle magnets.
Eleven magnets, eleven West Seattle stories, plus the craftsman from our first run.
We design these magnets and laser-cut them from birch plywood, here in West Seattle. They're a small set, a thank-you to the guests who stay with us.
Collect the set.
No. 1
The West Seattle peninsula
Elliott Bay to the north, Puget Sound to the west and the Duwamish River to the east. Your magnet is a map of the peninsula we call home.
No. 2
The Alaska Junction
SW Alaska St and California Av SW: the corner at the heart of West Seattle, and the one The Junction Retreat is named for.
No. 3
Orcas of Puget Sound
Black and white, fast and devoted to family: the orca is Washington's official marine mammal, and now and then it swims right past West Seattle.
No. 4
Alki Point Light
At the western tip of Alki, a small white lighthouse has watched over the way into Elliott Bay since 1913.
No. 5
The West Seattle water taxi
Seacrest to downtown's Pier 50 in about 12 minutes, across Elliott Bay with the skyline straight ahead.
No. 6
Puget Sound and the Olympics
Look west from almost any West Seattle shore and the Olympic Mountains stand across the water.
No. 7
The great blue heron
Seattle's official bird: tall, patient and blue-grey, and often standing in the shallows along West Seattle's shore.
No. 8
Alki, 1851
In November 1851 a small party of settlers landed at Alki. The Duwamish people had lived on these shores for thousands of years before them.
No. 9
Lincoln Park
A forest on a bluff above Puget Sound, with madronas leaning out over the water, driftwood on the beach and Vashon Island across the way.
No. 10
The Evergreen State
Washington has been called the Evergreen State since 1890, for the dark forests of fir, cedar and hemlock that still cover so much of it.
No. 11
The house on your magnet
It's ours: The Junction Retreat, a renovated craftsman in West Seattle. If you stayed with us, thank you. We hope it felt like home.
First run
The craftsman bungalow
Low roofs, deep porches and tapered columns: the house on your magnet is the kind you pass on block after block in West Seattle.
