The perfect West Seattle weekend, hour by hour

From a Friday-night soak under the pergola to a Sunday morning at the farmers market — exactly how we'd spend 48 hours from the front door.

The best West Seattle weekends aren't packed — they're paced. You've got a soft tub, a covered deck, and a walkable neighborhood full of good coffee and better food. Here's how we'd spend 48 hours from the front door of The Junction Retreat, with room to do less.

Friday — arrive and exhale

Check-in is 3 PM and it's keyless, so there's no key to coordinate — unlock from your phone and you're in. Drop your bags, then do the thing the place was built for: warm up the soft tub, open the pergola louvers, and let the evening go quiet.

When you're hungry, the Junction is a five-minute drive (or a flat walk). Falafel Salam on California Ave is a quick, great dinner; for something a little more sit-down, Raccolto does fresh, simple Italian. Grab a few breakfast things on the way home — there's a full-size Whole Foods in the Whittaker on Fauntleroy.

Saturday — coffee, beach, big trees

Start at Bakery Nouveau in the Junction — the twice-baked almond croissant is the move, and the coffee's excellent. Go early on weekends; the line is real but quick.

From there, point yourself at the water. Alki Beach is a short drive down the hill — a long flat walk with the downtown skyline across Elliott Bay, plus cafés and bike rentals along the strip. On the way back, duck into Schmitz Preserve Park, a pocket of true old-growth forest near Alki. Ten minutes in and the city disappears into big mossy trees.

For lunch, Husky Deli is a 90-year Junction institution — sandwiches at the counter and house-made ice cream you'll want to save room for. Spend the afternoon however the weather tells you to: deck and soft tub if it's gray, a longer walk if the sun's out.

Sunday — market morning, slow exit

If it's Sunday, the West Seattle Farmers Market sets up right in the Junction — local produce, flowers, and makers, and one of the better small markets in the city. Grab what looks good and bring it back to the full kitchen for a slow brunch on the deck.

Before you go, one more soak. Checkout is 11 AM, the door locks itself behind you, and the only thing we ask is that you leave it about how you found it. If the calendar's open, message us — we're happy to stretch the morning.

If you only do three things

  • One slow soak under the pergola, lights low.
  • Bakery Nouveau, then Alki — the quintessential West Seattle Saturday.
  • The Sunday market, turned into brunch in the kitchen.

That's the weekend. Everything else is a bonus.

Make it a weekend.

The Junction Retreat sleeps six, with a soft tub and smart pergola out back. Book directly with the hosts.
